Student Research
Grant Program
2023/24

The Mecklenburg Audubon Society (MAS) is pleased to announce our 2023/24 student research grants program.

This program is consistent with our stated mission:

“The Mecklenburg Audubon Society is dedicated to the conservation and restoration of natural ecosystems focusing on birds and other wildlife for the benefit of humanity and earth’s biological diversity.”

The program will provide grants to undergraduate and graduate students in degree-seeking programs engaged in conservation, research and/or education projects related to the general study of birds, bird habitat preservation or restoration of bird populations. The grants are geographically limited to projects in North or South Carolina.

Grants are intended to help with expenses of (1) travel to/from a research site and/or (2) supplies and equipment needed for the research project that are not ordinarily available in the institutional research laboratory. Funds will NOT be provided for other expenses such as travel to scientific meetings, textbooks, standard laboratory supplies, salaries, manuscript preparation/publication, or indirect institutional fees. Grant awards will not exceed $1,000.

Applicants for these grants must provide a written description of the research project complete with a timeline and budget. Students in their final year of study must plan to complete their research before graduation.
